Sustainable Animal Agriculture InternshipProgram Description

How is animal agriculture helping to meet the demand for healthy food? This eight-week sustainable animal agriculture internship program aims to inspire talented students to become the thought leaders in agricultural sustainability. Participants will engage in agricultural research within the Department of Animal Science at Cornell University with faculty mentors, covering a breadth of topics including: metabolic efficiency of production animals, reducing the environmental impact of animal production and improving farm profitability through enhancing the efficiency of absorbed nutrients, nutrient and manure management and assessment of nutrient cycling to achieving successful outcomes in both production and environmental sustainability, and reproductive biology, physiology, and genomics for both fundamental gains in efficiency and its translation to production.

Our agroforestry apprenticeship training program is designed to train participants in the art and science of forest ecology, and equip them with practical real-world skills and experience in forestry and forest farming. We focus on taking the time to support individual learning and skill building in this five-month experiential educational program.

Dilmun Hill Student Farm is excited to present the Food Entrepreneurship speaker series! If you are interested in local food, business, and sustainability, then this series is for you! Join us to hear about the evolution of these enterprises and how they are influencing the local food movement in Ithaca. Each talk will be followed by a Q & A session.

Call for workshop and presentation ideas!

Groundswell Center for Local Food & Farming is pleased to announce “The Farm to Plate Conference: Uniting to Create, Educate, and Celebrate a Sustainable Local Food System” which will take place on May 11-13, 2017 in Ithaca, NY and the surrounding areas.

The conference is a collaborative effort by Groundswell Center, Food, Agroecology, Justice and Well-being Collective at Cornell, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Crooked Carrot, Finger Lakes Permaculture Institute, Roots Rising Farm, the Tompkins County Food Policy Council and the Youth Farm Project.
