Undoing Racism in the Food System, a signature workshop facilitated by the People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond, will take place in Ithaca, NY April 6 – 8th.
Through dialogue, reflection, role-playing, strategic planning and presentations, this intensive process challenges participants to analyze the structures of power and privilege that hinder social equity and prepares them to be effective organizers for justice. The multiracial team of organizers/trainers includes more than 40 men and women whose anti-racist organizing expertise includes years with civil, labor and welfare rights struggles, educational, foster care, social service and health reform movements, as well as youth and grassroots community organizing. An average of 10-15 groups per month participate in The People’s Institute Undoing Racism®/Community Organizing process.

Growing Vegetables in a High Tunnel – Saturday March 25th, 9am-2pm (Shared Roots Farm)
Calling all Veterans: Are you interested in learning how to grow vegetables in high tunnels? Join us at this one day intensive workshop at a farm to learn from experts at Cornell Cooperative Extension about successful growing in a high tunnel, marketing and then we’ll hear tour the high tunnels and hear from the farmers about how they operate their CSA and sell at farmers markets. Veterans get priority for spots, civilians can still attend if spots exist. Travel stipends available. Only $25 includes all education, handouts and lunch.

Agritourism Workshop in Rochester – March 30th, 2017
This agritourism workshop is part of a series designed to help farmers build useful skills and partnerships, scale up their business, and create new markets by expanding from purely agricultural operations to creating an experience-based ‘destination’ farm for the public.

The Cured Meats Workshop is tailored to small-scale meat processors and restaurant owners interested in creating a value-added meat product for their customers.
The course consists of lecture sessions that will cover basic charcuterie, meat fabrication, casings, grinding, as well as an overview of HACCP, scheduled processes, and testing. Participants will also learn through on-hands sessions the basics of cured meats production in coppa, pancetta, speck and others. A full agenda for the event can be found here (PDF).
