Strengthen the Bond to Boost Sales – Wednesday March 22nd, Noon to 2pm (online)
No pressure, but YOU are the key selling point for your customers! Only at a farmers market can shoppers get “face time” with multiple farmers – and get to know who grows their food. With practical strategies and sales secrets, you can build up that farmer-consumer bond and your bottom line.

Growing Vegetables in a High Tunnel – Saturday March 25th, 9am-2pm (Shared Roots Farm)
Calling all Veterans: Are you interested in learning how to grow vegetables in high tunnels? Join us at this one day intensive workshop at a farm to learn from experts at Cornell Cooperative Extension about successful growing in a high tunnel, marketing and then we’ll hear tour the high tunnels and hear from the farmers about how they operate their CSA and sell at farmers markets. Veterans get priority for spots, civilians can still attend if spots exist. Travel stipends available. Only $25 includes all education, handouts and lunch.

    Rural landowners throughout the region are being approached by landsmen offering lease for land for potential solar installations. Learn about the dangers and pitfalls of these agreements, and what to consider.
  • Community Scale Solar & Using Sheep to Control Ground Cover Growth
    With staff from the Renovus Solar and sheep farmer Caleb Scott
  • Changes in the CRP to Include Pastureland
    With Erin Madden, Farm Service Agency
    CRP now includes a grassland program. If you are grazing animals and interested in rotational grazing, come learn about this program. If selected to participate, there could be cost share fencing and water systems assistance.

develop a farm business planDuring this five part series hosted by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County and led by Laura Biasillo, Agricultural Economic Development Specialist, participants will work through the various sections of a business plan for their agricultural venture. This is applicable whether you are considering a food-based business, growing fruits or vegetables, raising livestock or starting an agri-tourism based operation. Using a set of templates created by the Minnesota Institute for Sustainable Agriculture as well as the NYS Small Business Development Center, sample worksheets will lend a practical perspective and illustrate how real farm families set goals, research processing alternatives, determine potential markets, and evaluated financing options. Blank worksheets will help participants to develop a detailed, lender-ready business plan or map out strategies to take advantage of new opportunities.

A regional farmer-buyer mixer event will be held in Troy, New York on March 6th, 2017

The Mixer Will Be Held at Revolution Hall, Brown’s Brewing in Troy

Farmers who are looking to expand their marketing should consider this opportunity to network with potential buyers in the region. Pre-Registration is required.

The regional Farmer-Buyer Mixer from 3pm – 6pm on March 6th in Troy, NY has a few spots open for both FARMERS and BUYERS. Complementary appetizers sourced from the Troy Farmers Market and a complementary craft beer from Brown’s Brewery will be provided.  A selection of Brown’s beers will also be on tap at a cash bar.
Current registration includes 20 buyers and 50 farmers offering an incredible variety of products.  Buyers, email for a current Directory of farmers attending.
